Job summary

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics System Sector in Palmdale, CA, seeks a Director Tool Engineering 1 to lead a team of tooling designers, engineers, analysts, and technicians supporting the Strike program. The role requires strategic and tactical leadership over tool development, fabrication, installation, and maintenance, with budget and schedule responsibilities.

Based in Palmdale, this position offers 1st Shift - 9/80 with occasional weekend/off-hours as required.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree with 10 years’ experience in Tooling/Tool Engineering, or a Master’s with 8+ years.
4+ years of management or leadership experience.
Active DoD Secret clearance and ability to obtain Special Program Access.
Experience with tooling processes including machining, fabrication, assembly, and testing.

Responsibilities

Lead and manage the tooling engineering and technical teams, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance feedback.
Collaborate with Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Facilities, Tooling Quality, and Production teams to ensure seamless integration of tooling packages.
As a CAM, develop and manage tooling budgets (direct/nonrecurring, sustaining, indirect, capital) to ensure total cost management.
Oversee the design/development, fabrication, and installation of tooling fixtures, automation, and equipment for manufacturing operations.
Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to address tooling/automation issues and improve quality.
Provide maintenance to all tools/automation/equipment, develop/maintain KPIs to monitor tooling performance.
