Job summary

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine seeks an Executive Editor to direct major publication activities, manage staff and vendors, and guide high-volume editorial production for digital and print content.

You will apply AI-enabled tools with governance, ensure accessibility and privacy compliance, mentor teams, and report to senior leadership in a hybrid work environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or related field.
• Eight years of professional publishing experience, with four in supervision.
• Comprehensive knowledge of publishing workflows and accessibility standards.
• Experience with AI-enabled publishing technologies and governance.

Responsibilities

• Directs production of publications and oversees office workflow and schedules.
• Leads staff recruitment, training, development, mentoring, and performance reviews.
• Establishes editorial policies, ensures copyright compliance and accessibility.
• Communicates policies to authors, reviewers, and members; monitors standards.
• Oversees vendor services and budgets; manages contracts and procurement.
