Job summary

Virginia Military Institute is seeking a Director of Public Information to lead public affairs, media relations, crisis communications, and institutional messaging. The role reports to the Assistant Superintendent for Strategic Enrollment Management and directs organizational communications at VMI.

The director will craft proactive communication strategies, serve as the official spokesperson during emergencies, and manage branding, internal and external communications, and stakeholder engagement

Qualifications

• Master's degree in public relations, communications or related field.
• At least five years of related experience beyond degree requirements.

Responsibilities

• Develops and executes institute-wide communication plans and goals.
• Coordinate communications with offices, departments, and alumni networks.
• Oversee media relations, crisis communications, and executive messaging.
• Lead branding, editorial standards, and communications for major initiatives.
• Manage internal communications, events, and staff operations.
