Job summary

Affordable Homes & Communities (AHC) is seeking a Director of Communications to lead internal and external communications strategy, serving as a trusted advisor to the CEO and senior leadership.

The role requires managing communications for major initiatives, incidents, and organizational change while upholding AHC’s brand and mission across all channels. Hybrid work schedule offered with onsite core days.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of nonprofit or corporate communications experience.
• Experience developing communications for organizational change including technology implementations.
• Experience working with media outlets and reporters.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Canva.
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Lead internal and external communications strategy aligned with the mission, priorities, and goals.
• Advise the President & CEO and senior leadership on communications.
• Maintain brand voice and messaging across channels and materials.
• Develop communications plans for major initiatives, campaigns, and events.
• Oversee website, social media, newsletters, and collateral.
• Lead crisis communications and media relations during incidents.
• Supervise staff and manage vendors, budgets, timelines.
