Job summary

Shadelands Post Acute in Oregon is seeking a dedicated and experienced Full-Time Director of Staff Development (DSD) – LVN to lead nursing staff training and certification programs, working closely with the Director of Nursing (DON) and Administrator to ensure high-quality resident care.

The DSD coordinates recruitment, documentation, payroll coordination, and in-service education, maintaining records and organizing drills.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Current, valid California LVN/LPN or RN license in good standing.
  • BSN preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of direct patient-care in a long-term care facility, plus one (1) year planning, implementing, evaluating nursing education programs.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in long-term care or skilled nursing preferred.
  • Experience in staff development, employee education, infection prevention, or nursing leadership is desirable.

Job description

Shadelands Post Acute is seeking a dedicated and experienced Full-Time Director of Staff Development (DSD) – LVN to join our team. The DSD plays a vital role in developing and maintaining a highly skilled nursing staff while helping ensure the highest standards of quality care for our residents.

Salary: $100,000–$110,000 per year, depending on experience

Schedule: Full-Time

General Purpose

The Director of Staff Development (DSD) is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating facility orientation, job skills training, in-service education, and certification training programs for nursing assistants, as required by applicable regulations. Working closely with the Director of Nursing (DON) and Administrator, the DSD helps ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times. This position also provides direct resident/patient care and supports staff competency, compliance, and professional development.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and participate in the recruiting and hiring of staff.
  • Coordinate completion and processing of employment-related documentation.
  • Coordinate payroll and employee benefit programs.
  • Develop positive, professional relationships with residents, families, and employees.
  • Plan, conduct, document, and/or coordinate required fire, internal disaster, and external mass casualty drills.
  • Maintain a neat, clean, well-groomed, and professional appearance.
  • Generate enthusiasm and foster cooperative relationships among employees.
  • Identify staff education needs using information from Licensing and Certification Surveys, employee evaluations, facility rounds, and recommendations from the Administrator and department heads.
  • Organize in-service education programs, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Prepare the annual in-service education schedule.
  • Prepare and post a monthly in-service calendar.
  • Maintain accurate in-service and education records as required by applicable regulations.
  • Plan and conduct meaningful in-service education programs for nursing personnel and facility staff to ensure competency in new and existing skills.
  • Make rounds and observe the delivery of resident/patient care.
  • Coordinate the facility's infection control surveillance program.
  • Supervise staff and participate in or assist with appropriate disciplinary measures.
  • Complete all forms required by the Department of Health related to in-service and education programs.
  • Participate in facility surveys and inspections conducted by authorized government agencies, as requested by the Administrator or Director of Nursing.
  • Provide direct resident/patient care as needed.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of employee, resident, and patient information at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Administrator or Director of Nursing.
Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Current, valid California LVN/LPN or RN license in good standing.
  • BSN preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of direct patient-care experience in a long-term care facility, plus one (1) year of experience planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing education programs.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience preferred, particularly in a long-term care or skilled nursing facility.
  • Previous experience in staff development, employee education, infection prevention, or nursing leadership is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable nursing, training, and long-term care regulations.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with residents, families, nursing staff, department heads, and facility leadership.
