Qualifications

• Must have a valid Michigan Administrator Certificate.
• MDE approval for director or supervisor of Special Education.
• Master’s degree in special education or equivalent; Minimum of 4 years work experience in special education.
• Satisfactory criminal background check.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance under state and federal mandates including IDEIA and ESSA; develop administrative procedures and prepare state and federal reports.
• Examine confidential student files to monitor for compliance with state and federal requirements.
• Serve as a contact person for parents, teachers, principals, and external agencies.
• Conduct in-service training for special education teachers and staff.
• Assist principals with special education staff evaluations.
• Provide and maintain child count information as required by regulations.
• Provide information for proper class size and staff utilization to improve programs.
• Assist in adapting Academy policies to include special education needs.
• Supervise the special education program’s effectiveness on a regular basis.

Education

Master’s degree in special education or equivalent

Michigan Administrator Certificate
