Job summary

The Director of Special Education at E. L. Haynes School in Washington, DC, will implement and maintain all Special Education and 504 programs for Pre-K through 12, ensuring compliance with LEA, state, and federal rules.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Student Support Services, this 12-month role oversees the Student Support Services team across three campuses, designing instructional services and supporting families and staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree; preferably in Special Education.
• 3+ years teaching students with disabilities in diverse settings.
• 3–5 years leading special education programs.
• Experience with data-driven instruction and standards-based assessment.
• DC Special Education systems experience (Special Programs, DCCATs, QLIK, SLED/IDS).

Responsibilities

• Provide strong leadership and implement the overall vision of the special education program to ensure continuous organizational development and improvement.
• Collaborate with school leadership teams to evaluate inclusionary practices and develop improvement strategies.
• Conduct co-observations and instructional rounds to support academic and behavioral program improvements.
• Evaluate the total special education program, curriculum, procedures, and student needs and achievements.
• Supervise special education instructional staff training, related service providers, and educational aides.
• Implement programs and projects aligning with LEA and state objectives.
• Support teachers with best practices to help students access grade-level curricula.
• Provide feedback to ILT, principals, and coaches about general education areas impacting differentiation.
