Job summary

Cat Adoption Team seeks a Shelter Operations Director to lead shelter operations, admissions, adoptions, foster care, and community programs. You will guide a ~17-employee department through three direct-report managers, ensuring humane animal care and efficient services.

As part of the senior leadership team, translate priorities into plans, oversee performance data, and communicate risks and opportunities. Strong collaboration with veterinary and other departments is essential.

Qualifications

• Five+ years of progressively responsible experience in animal sheltering, animal welfare, nonprofit operations, or related field.
• Experience supervising managers, supervisors, or multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience developing and managing departmental budgets and monitoring financial performance.
• Ability to establish performance expectations and coach leaders.
• Knowledge of contemporary animal-welfare practices and shelter operations.

Responsibilities

• Establish service plans, workflows, staffing models, and priorities to support humane care, timely placement, and customer experience.
• Lead departmental staffing, emergency response, and continuity planning.
• Develop and monitor SOPs with Medical Director and ensure training and compliance.
• Recruit, supervise, coach, and evaluate department managers and program leads.
• Manage budgets, monitor variances, and forecast resource needs.
• Communicate with Executive Director on performance, risks, and needs.
