Job summary

Brookings Institution in Washington, DC, seeks a Director of Safety and Security to lead institutional security, safety, and threat management across the campus and events. The role oversees event security, staff training, and coordination with external security partners and law enforcement.

The position requires in-depth knowledge of security systems, risk assessment, and executive protection planning, with a minimum of ten years’ related experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required, preferred education in criminal justice or corporate security, crisis management, emergency management or national security.
• A minimum of ten (10) years of applicable safety and security experience, including physical security, manned guarding, and electronic security.
• Executive protection experience and related certifications (ASIS, IAHSS, IACLEA) are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain security, safety, and threat management programs for Brookings employees, affiliates, visitors, and guests.
• Lead overall security operations, including event security, travel safety, risk monitoring, staff training, and liaison with contract security providers.
• Manage relationships with law enforcement and governmental agencies, and coordinate with facilities, IT, and HR on security-related matters.
• Lead travel security guidance and protocols; collaborate with General Counsel on travel risk management.
