Job summary

Actalent in Sioux Falls, SD seeks a Director of Safety and Environmental Health to lead development, implementation, and oversight of safety and environmental policies. The role ensures compliance with OSHA and environmental regulations while fostering a safe, healthy workplace across projects and sites.

The position emphasizes risk assessment, employee training, audits, and continuous improvement, with travel to field sites as needed. A senior candidate with extensive EHS leadership is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, or related field required; Masters degree desirable.
• Ten years of related experience preferred.
• Extensive knowledge of current company safety policies and applicable OSHA standards.
• Extensive knowledge of environmental regulations and policies.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Proficient in technology and equipment used in environmental inspections.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, ISNetworld, and other EHS & Workers Comp software.
• Extensive knowledge and understanding of applicable workers compensation laws, procedures, and regulations.
• Strong supervisory and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with management to develop, prepare, and implement safety policies and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules.
• Oversee completion of required OSHA recordkeeping and reporting.
• Identify opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems.
• Conduct employee training on applicable safety standards and recommend revisions, improvements, and updates.
• Review accident and incident reports.
• Conduct inspections to identify health and environmental risks and draft inspection reports.
• Develop and implement inspection policies and procedures, and schedule routine inspections.
• Prepare and schedule training to cover emergency procedures, workplace safety, and other relevant topics.
• Maintain records of discharge of or employee exposure to hazardous waste and/or pollutants, as required.
• Review workers' compensation claim forms and evaluate injury reports to assess compensation.
• Approve medical treatment, hospitalization, and surgery related to workers' compensation.
• Coordinate payment of medical bills, disability compensation, and death benefits.
• Maintain records, files, and databases of claims; prepare summary reports of collected data.
• Provide client companies and employees with information and training regarding workers' compensation benefits.
• Conduct performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
