Job summary

Leadpoint Business Services seeks a Director of Safety to drive the safety strategy across recycling and production facilities nationwide. You will lead a hands-on safety program, partner with site leadership, and ensure OSHA compliance while reducing workplace risk and building a culture of safety.

The role reports to the VP, oversees audits, corrective actions, and regulatory inquiries, and requires extensive travel (up to 75%).

Job description

Leadpoint Business Services is seeking an experienced Director of Safety to lead and oversee safety operations across our recycling and production facilities nationwide. This position is responsible for developing and driving Leadpoint’s overall safety strategy, ensuring regulatory compliance, reducing workplace risk, and building a strong culture of safety throughout the organization.

The Director of Safety will provide leadership and direction to the Safety Manager, Occupational Injury Specialist and operational leadership while partnering with On-Site Managers, corporate leadership, employees, and client representatives to continuously improve safety performance.

This role requires a hands-on safety leader who can operate at both the strategic and field level and will report to the VP of The Director of Safety will analyze company-wide safety trends, establish programs and standards, oversee serious incident investigations, ensure corrective actions are implemented, and provide leadership during OSHA and other regulatory matters.

This is a full-time leadership position with significant travel to operational locations. We are looking for someone who can build effective safety programs while also being comfortable walking a recycling facility, identifying hazards, coaching site leadership, and taking action when safety concerns arise.

Responsibilities of the Director of Safety

• Lead the overall safety strategy and safety programs for Leadpoint operations across multiple locations.
• Manage, develop, and provide direction to the Safety Manager’s and other operational leaders responsible for workplace safety.
• Establish company-wide safety goals, standards, procedures, and performance expectations.
• Monitor safety performance across facilities and use injury, incident, workers’ compensation, and audit data to identify trends and areas requiring improvement.
• Conduct and oversee safety audits, facility inspections, risk assessments, and hazard identification initiatives.
• Ensure identified safety concerns and corrective actions are appropriately documented, assigned, tracked, and completed.
• Lead or oversee investigations of serious employee injuries, accidents, near misses, and other safety incidents.
• Ensure effective Root Cause Analysis is completed and appropriate corrective and preventive actions are implemented.
• Maintain oversight of OSHA recordkeeping requirements, including OSHA 300 logs, Sharps Logs, and other required safety documentation.
• Provide leadership and guidance regarding OSHA, EPA, and other applicable federal, state, and local safety requirements.
• Serve as a primary company resource during OSHA inspections, regulatory inquiries, and other safety-related government interactions.
• Partner with Human Resources and operational leadership on workers’ compensation claims, injury management, return-to-work initiatives, and strategies to reduce claim frequency and severity.
• Develop and maintain company safety policies, procedures, programs, and training materials.
• Ensure employees and managers receive appropriate safety training and understand their responsibilities for maintaining a safe workplace.
• Coach and develop On-Site Managers and other operational leaders on safety leadership, hazard recognition, incident prevention, and accountability.
• Partner with client leadership to address safety concerns and support site-specific safety requirements.
• Prepare and present safety performance reports, trends, risks, and recommendations to senior leadership.
• Lead company safety meetings and facilitate communication of safety initiatives across operational locations.
• Evaluate existing safety programs and implement improvements based on regulatory requirements, operational needs, incident trends, and industry best practices.
• Promote a proactive safety culture focused on preventing injuries rather than responding to incidents after they occur.
• Travel regularly to operational locations to evaluate conditions, support site leadership, conduct investigations, and ensure company safety expectations are being followed.

Requirements of the Director of Safety

• 7+ years of progressive occupational safety experience, preferably within recycling, manufacturing, industrial, warehousing, production, or similarly high-risk environments.
• Previous safety leadership or management experience with responsibility for multiple locations strongly preferred.
• Experience managing or providing direct leadership to safety professionals.
• Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations, EPA requirements, hazard identification, risk assessment, incident investigation, and workplace safety programs.
• Demonstrated experience developing and implementing safety programs, policies, procedures, and corrective action plans.
• Experience conducting or overseeing Root Cause Analysis and serious incident investigations.
• Experience with OSHA recordkeeping and regulatory inspections.
• Knowledge of workers’ compensation processes, injury management, and strategies for reducing workplace injuries and claims.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence employees, managers, clients, and senior leadership.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify trends and translate safety data into actionable improvements.
• Ability to balance strategic leadership responsibilities with hands‑on field safety support.
• Strong organizational, prioritization, and time‑management skills.
• Ability to make sound decisions and respond effectively to urgent safety matters.
• Strong computer proficiency and experience maintaining and analyzing safety records and reports.
• First Aid/CPR certification preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Engineering, Safety Management, or a related field preferred.
• Professional safety certifications such as CSP, ASP, CHST, or equivalent are strongly preferred.
• Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred
• Must be authorized to work in the United States.
• Must be able to travel up to 75%.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This position works in both office settings and active recycling and production facilities. While visiting operational locations, exposure to noise, moving equipment, fumes, airborne particles, vibration, outdoor conditions, and varying weather conditions may occur.

The position requires regular standing and walking while conducting facility visits and inspections, as well as the ability to climb, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and occasionally crawl. The Director of Safety must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
