Job description

Asset based trucking company is looking for a Director of Safety whose purpose is to implement the programs and procedures in compliance with DOT, State and Federal regulation, OSHA and company policies. The Director of Safety should have an emphasis on a team approach with individual responsibility for all employees to achieve common goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Include but are not limited to the following:

  1. Proficient in Federal and State regulations (e.g., DOT, OSHA)
  2. Ensure that new driver prospects meet all company criteria, and all hiring procedures are followed
  3. Partner with Human Resources about hiring, discipline and terminations
  4. Conduct audits to ensure safety compliance standards are being met
  5. Represents Company in all safety related audits. Oversee completion of any corrective actions if required
  6. Conduct reviews of key safety and training indicators and trends, implement strategies for improvement
  7. Provide daily, weekly and monthly KPI reporting
  8. Maintain all safety requirements and databases
  9. Create and maintain safety training program for all driver employees and terminals
  10. Update and develop safety and training policies, procedures and manuals as needed
  11. Develop and oversee driver safety incentives
  12. Investigate special cause incidents including accidents, worker's compensation injuries, all violations of company safety procedures, OSHA, DOT or other rules or regulations
  13. Meet and interview every driver involved in a preventable accident or work-related injury and arrange for required retraining, if necessary
  14. Review and follow up on injuries and accidents; communicate with insurance companies and other involved agencies or companies
  15. Coordination with current insurance company to identify trends and safety initiatives

Minimum Qualifications:

• 3+ years of FMCSA and DOT regulation experience required

• 3+ years of insurance claims experience required

• 3+ years of ELD experience required

• Class A CDL preferred

Supervisory Responsibilities: Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable DOT / FMCSA laws. Responsibilities include safety training for employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Must be available after hours if needed.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
