Job summary

St. Michael Poplar Springs Parish in Mt. Airy, MD, seeks a Director of Music and Liturgy.

Collaborating with pastoral staff and the Liturgy Committee, the Director provides music for liturgical celebrations that are appropriate, prayerful, and beautiful, coordinating all musical groups and scheduling musicians. The role requires a bachelor’s degree in music, five years of liturgical music experience in a Catholic setting, and strong leadership in liturgy and budgeting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Music or equivalent required.
• Five years’ experience providing liturgical music in a Roman Catholic setting.
• Working knowledge of Roman Catholic liturgical theology and sacred music repertoire.
• Ability to collaborate with others to bring out their best work.
• Accomplished keyboardist with choral, vocal, and conducting training.

Responsibilities

• Develop a long-range vision for liturgical musical expression.
• Execute the long-range vision with pastoral sensitivity and use parishioners’ talents.
• Provide music for Mass and coordinate all musical groups/assignments.
• Schedule musicians and select music for liturgies.
• Direct support for funerals and weddings at the parish.
• Plan and coordinate liturgical celebrations with the Liturgy Committee.
• Develop and submit an annual liturgical budget; monitor expenditures.
