The Director of Risk & Safety provides strategic leadership and oversight of workplace safety, occupational risk, workers' compensation, loss prevention and claims management programs across multiple skilled nursing and long-term care facilities throughout Colorado. The Director is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving an organization-wide safety and risk management program designed to protect employees, residents, visitors, physical assets, and the organization. This position partners closely with facility leadership and executive departments to identify hazards, reduce workplace injuries, strengthen regulatory compliance, manage organizational risk, and promote a proactive culture of safety. The Director provides leadership for the organization's OSHA compliance, workers' compensation program, injury and illness prevention efforts, safety committees, incident investigations, safety education, risk assessments, and corrective action processes. The Director analyzes injury, claims, and safety data to identify trends and develop strategies that reduce frequency and severity of workplace incidents and associated costs. This position supports multiple facilities and requires approximately 10-15% travel throughout Colorado.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Develops, implements, and oversees the organization's comprehensive workplace safety, occupational risk, and loss prevention strategy across multiple skilled nursing and long-term care facilities.
  • Establishes policies, procedures, standards, and programs that promote a strong and consistent culture of safety throughout the organization.
  • Conducts and oversees facility risk assessments and safety audits to identify hazards, areas of exposure, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develops annual and long-term risk reduction initiatives based on injury trends, workers' compensation experience, regulatory requirements, facility assessments, and organizational priorities.
  • Partners with facility Administrators, Directors of Nursing, Human Resources, Operations, and other leaders to implement corrective action plans and improve safety performance.
  • Provides leadership, guidance, and support to facility safety committees and ensures appropriate follow‑through on identified risks and corrective actions.
  • Advises senior leadership regarding significant workplace safety and risk exposures and recommends appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • OSHA & Regulatory Compliance
  • Leads organizational efforts to maintain compliance with applicable OSHA workplace safety and health requirements and other applicable federal and Colorado requirements.
  • Oversees OSHA recordkeeping practices and works with appropriate stakeholders to support accurate and timely documentation of occupational injuries and illnesses.
  • Supports facilities during OSHA inspections, inquiries, complaints, and other workplace safety matters.
  • Monitors changes to applicable workplace safety requirements and recommends policy, procedure, training, or operational changes as necessary.

  • Partners with facility and organizational leadership to maintain appropriate programs related to safe patient/resident handling; ergonomics and musculoskeletal injury prevention; slips, trips, and falls; workplace violence prevention; bloodborne pathogen and exposure risks; personal protective equipment; hazard communication; emergency preparedness; and other occupational hazards relevant to healthcare environments.
  • Workers' Compensation & Claims Management
  • Provides strategic oversight of the organization's Colorado workers' compensation program, working with internal stakeholders, insurance carriers, third‑party administrators, brokers, legal counsel, and medical providers as appropriate.
  • Monitors workers' compensation claims from initial reporting through resolution and promotes timely communication between the appropriate stakeholders.
  • Reviews workers' compensation data to identify injury patterns, claim trends, high‑risk locations, recurring causes, and opportunities for prevention.
  • Monitors claim activity, reserves, costs, and significant developments and communicates material issues to appropriate organizational leadership.
