The director is a change-oriented leader, excited to explore and promote emerging opportunities to deliver high quality experiences that are effective and efficient. The DRL is responsible for contributing to the development of: collaborations, outreach and programming that fosters community, belonging and educationally-purposeful engagement; a rich and vibrant co-curricular environment; activities and experiences that contribute to the ongoing transition of students through and beyond the first year as they develop, explore and grow their skills, knowledge and capacities in pursuit of the attributes of a Juniata graduate.

The DRL works individually and with colleagues to design, promote, implement, and assess programs across the division of Student Life, fostering collaborative, critical, and constructive efforts aligned with its mission.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

• Contribute to developing and implementing a vision for the holistic student experience aligned with the College’s mission and values.
• Articulate and develop programs that support enrollment, retention, and vibrant living experiences.
• Foster belonging and community, supporting self-efficacy, identity, and leadership development.
• Provide direction, oversight, and professional development for residential life staff.
• Recruit, train, and evaluate staff; conduct performance reviews and gather feedback.
• Lead initiatives to enhance vibrancy and engagement, including staff leadership training and recognition activities.
• Develop assessment measures to evaluate program effectiveness and inform improvements.
• Develop policies promoting safety, responsibility, and respectful living, addressing student conduct issues as needed.
• Support residential life and housing systems to meet revenue and occupancy goals.
• Supervise room selection processes and serve as a resource for student concerns.
• Oversee room change processes and advocate for resource needs, including facilities improvements.
• Maintain accurate records using the Adirondack system and participate in after-hours crisis response.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
