American Electric Power is seeking a Director of Regulatory Affairs & Legal in Austin, TX to lead regulatory initiatives and provide expert legal support on regulatory, legislative, and policy matters. You will manage filings, rate cases, and compliance while guiding a team of regulatory professionals.

The role interacts with regulators, industry groups, and external counsel to shape regulatory strategy and mitigate risk. A JD and active U.S.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active U.S. bar license.
• Minimum 7 years in regulatory affairs, legal, or public policy.
• Experience in utilities, energy regulation, rate cases, and compliance programs.

Responsibilities

• Lead regulatory initiatives supporting corporate, financial, operational and customer objectives.
• Manage regulatory filings, rate cases, cost recovery mechanisms, and settlements support.
• Provide legal guidance on regulatory, legislative, and policy matters.
• Build relationships with regulatory commissions, industry groups, and external counsel.
• Monitor regulatory, legislative, and policy developments and communicate business impacts to leadership.
• Oversee preparation of regulatory filings, testimony, interrogatories, memoranda, and related materials.
• Ensure regulatory compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.
• Lead, coach, and develop regulatory affairs and legal professionals.
• Support business initiatives and infrastructure investments through regulatory planning and advocacy.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to identify and mitigate regulatory risks.
