We’re supporting the development of a more resilient electricity grid and invite you to be at the forefront of this work!

Why Hydrostor?

Your Mission

Hydrostor is seeking a strategic and influential regulatory affairs leader to help advance the deployment of long-duration energy storage across California and other key markets. As Director, Regulatory & External Affairs, you will lead policy advocacy, regulatory engagement, and stakeholder relations efforts that support the growth and commercialization of Hydrostor's Advanced Compressed Air Energy Storage (A-CAES) technology.

This highly visible, external-facing role plays a critical part in shaping market conditions that enable project development and commercial success. With a primary focus on California and the western USA, you will actively engage with the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), utilities, policymakers, industry associations, and other key stakeholders to help drive procurement opportunities, influence energy policy, and accelerate the adoption of long-duration energy storage solutions.

This position reports to the Vice President, Government & Regulatory Affairs and works closely with Hydrostor's global regulatory and external affairs teams.

Your Day-to-Day Adventures
  • Lead Hydrostor's regulatory and public policy strategy in California, with a focus on advancing long-duration energy storage market opportunities.
  • Monitor, assess, and actively participate in California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) proceedings, regulatory initiatives, procurement frameworks, and resource planning activities.
  • Develop and execute advocacy strategies that support the commercialization and deployment of Hydrostor's A-CAES technology.
  • Partner with Business Development and Commercial teams to support utility, public sector, and large commercial and industrial customer opportunities.
  • Provide strategic guidance on California energy policy, market trends, utility procurement programs, transmission and interconnection developments, and emerging regulatory issues.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with utilities, regulators, government agencies, industry associations, elected officials, environmental organizations, labor groups, and other key stakeholders.
  • Represent Hydrostor at industry conferences, workshops, regulatory forums, working groups, and stakeholder meetings.
  • Serve as a company spokesperson and deliver presentations to external audiences on energy storage, regulatory matters, and market development initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Communications team to develop and execute stakeholder engagement, outreach, and thought leadership strategies.
  • Manage external consultants, legal counsel, lobbyists, and industry advisors as required.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable lobbying, advocacy, and government engagement requirements.
  • Partner closely with Hydrostor's global Government & Regulatory Affairs team to maintain alignment on corporate advocacy priorities and strategic objectives.
Who You Are

You are a strategic and relationship-driven regulatory affairs professional who understands how policy, regulation, and market development intersect to create commercial opportunities in the energy sector.

You thrive in fast-paced, entrepreneurial environments and bring a hands-on approach to solving complex challenges. You are equally comfortable engaging with regulators and policymakers, supporting commercial negotiations, speaking at industry events, and collaborating with technical and project development teams.

You have deep knowledge of California's electricity market and regulatory landscape, along with a passion for accelerating the clean energy transition through innovative long-duration energy storage solutions.

What You Bring
