Job summary

Electric Hydrogen is seeking a Development Engineer to lead the technical development of green hydrogen, blue hydrogen, and e‑Fuel projects from concept through Final Investment Decision. You will coordinate with internal technology and project execution groups and with external resources to drive technical deliverables.

This role requires hands‑on engineering and project development experience, strong communication, and the ability to manage multiple workstreams in a fast‑moving environment

Qualifications

• 10+ years of engineering and project development experience in energy sectors.

We are seeking a Development Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will support the development of both large-scale industrial low-carbon hydrogen fuel cell power and green hydrogen e-Fuel projects. You will be responsible for leading the technical development of these projects, coordinating closely with the project development team, our internal technology and project execution groups, and external technical resources.

This position is ideal for an engineering professional with hands‑on technical experience in complex industrial energy projects, particularly natural gas infrastructure, green and blue hydrogen, carbon capture and sequestration or utilization, industrial gases, low‑carbon fuels, and related decarbonization pathways. The ideal candidate should be passionate about industrial decarbonization and have technoeconomic and commercial sense, polished external communication skills, project management skills, and thrive in fast‑moving, uncertain environments common in project development.

You will work in a hybrid capacity from our Houston, TX office and report to the Vice President, Development.

Primary Responsibilities

• Lead day‑to‑day technical activities in support of our green hydrogen, blue hydrogen, e‑Fuel, and other low‑carbon industrial projects, from initial concept definition through Final Investment Decision (FID).
• Serve as the development group’s primary interface with internal and external technology, engineering, construction, and project execution groups.
• Prepare key project deliverables such as plot plans, execution schedules, capital and operating cost estimates, plant performance and utility consumption estimates, carbon intensity / GREET modeling, inputs into financial technoeconomic models and decision‑making, etc.
• Lead preparation of technical aspects of external documents such as grid interconnection applications, air emissions permit applications, water source requests, natural gas supply requests, etc.
• Support customer and commercial counterparty engagement activities, including development of proposals, project concepts, commercial discussion materials, and due diligence packages.
• Manage external technical resources such as engineering firms.
• Along with our internal engineering and execution teams, develop project‑specific execution plans including technology selection, FEED, pre‑FID equipment procurement, and EPC contractor / construction plans.
• Monitor technology and technical market developments that impact our project developments.
• Work with our project developers to conduct project due diligence, including evaluation of sites, infrastructure availability, permitting pathways, natural gas and CO2 infrastructure, market conditions, and potential project partners.
• Support project financing and lender diligence activities by coordinating project information requests and technical documentation.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of engineering and project development experience within the energy, natural gas, industrial, infrastructure, hydrogen, carbon capture, renewable fuels, or clean technology sectors.
• Experience in design and development of natural gas, blue hydrogen, carbon capture and sequestration, industrial gases, energy infrastructure, renewable fuels, or other low‑carbon industrial projects through key project milestones.
• Demonstrated understanding of project development processes, including permitting, site selection, utility coordination, natural gas supply or infrastructure diligence, CO2 transportation and sequestration considerations, commercial contracting, and stakeholder management.
• Familiarity with carbon intensity, emissions accounting, carbon capture performance, CO2 storage or offtake pathways, and related regulatory or incentive frameworks is strongly preferred.
• Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple parallel workstreams and competing priorities.
• Experience working across multidisciplinary teams including engineering, environmental, commercial, legal, finance, policy, supply chain, and operations functions.
• Strong analytical capabilities, including experience with project economics, budgeting, financial analysis, and development risk assessment.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate complex project issues into clear recommendations and action plans, and to represent our project design to external stakeholders.
• Ability to operate effectively in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial environment.

$162,690—$191,400 USD

Actual base salary offered to the hired applicant will be determined based on their work location, level, qualifications, job‑related skills, as well as relevant education or training and experience.
