Director of Racquets Country Club in Durham, North Carolina is looking for a Director of Racquets.
Position Overview
Reporting to the General Manager/COO, the Director of Racquets will oversee all aspects of the Club’s racquets operations, including programming, instruction, tournaments, staff leadership, retail operations, budgeting, and court maintenance. The ideal candidate will combine strong professional and managerial skills with a visible, hands‑on leadership style, a commitment to operational excellence, and a genuine passion for member service. This individual will play a key role in strengthening the racquets program, encouraging participation, and creating memorable experiences for members and their guests.
Key Responsibilities
- Program Leadership: Develop, organize, and direct comprehensive tennis and pickleball programs, including private lessons, clinics, tournaments, exhibitions, leagues, and social events.
- Member Engagement: Increase participation and enthusiasm across all skill levels while providing courteous, responsive, and professional service to members and guests.
- Staff Leadership: Recruit, train, supervise, schedule, and evaluate racquets professional and support staff, fostering a collaborative, service-oriented team.
- Facility Management: Oversee court maintenance, repairs, cleaning, and inspections. Maintain excellent playing conditions through regular oversight and hands‑on involvement as needed.
- Retail Operations: Manage the racquets shop, maintain appropriate merchandise inventory, and provide equipment services, including racquet stringing and minor repairs.
- Financial Management: Develop and administer the department’s annual budget, monitor expenses, and implement strategies to meet financial and operational objectives.
- Marketing and Communications: Promote racquets programs and facilities, develop an annual calendar of activities and promotional campaigns, and contribute news, photographs, and updates to the Club newsletter.
- Club Collaboration: Work closely with Club management and other department leaders to coordinate events, support food and beverage service, and enhance the overall member experience.
- Operational Excellence: Maintain accurate lesson and clinic records, prepare monthly reports, enforce Club policies and procedures, and ensure compliance with applicable employment laws and requirements.
Qualifications
- Three to five years of experience directing an active racquets program, preferably at a member-owned private country club.
- Professional certification through RSPA or an equivalent organization, along with a commitment to continuing education.
- A bachelor’s degree is preferred; demonstrated success and extensive relevant experience in a comparable private club environment will also be considered.
- Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated experience managing racquets programming, staff, budgets, retail operations, and facilities.
- A member-first service philosophy and the ability to foster an inclusive, welcoming, and engaging racquets community.
- A hands‑on approach to leadership, including a willingness to be visibly present on the courts during peak periods of play.
