Job summary

The City of Everett seeks a Director of Engineering to lead civil engineering efforts for city infrastructure, including streets, water mains, sewers, and public facilities. Oversees design, construction, and maintenance, supervising engineers and consultants, and coordinating with other departments and agencies.

Requires a civil engineering degree with 7–10 years of experience, plus at least 3 years in a supervisory role; MA PE preferred and a valid MA Driver’s License.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering; 7–10 years of progressive civil engineering experience.
• 7–10 years professional civil engineering experience with 3 years supervisory experience.
• Massachusetts PE registration preferred.
• Massachusetts Class D Driver’s License or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Plans, organizes and directs engineering field and office activities.
• Supervises engineering staff and consultants in design of public projects.
• Assists in preparation of specifications and bids; estimates costs.
• Reviews and approves plans for streets and utilities installed by developers.
• Prepares department budget and administers funds.
• Coordinates with other City departments and agencies.
