Overview:
We're seeking a Director, Product Management to lead the vision, strategy, and build-out of our proprietary subscription commerce platform: the system that will power billing, subscription lifecycle management, invoicing, quoting, and procurement for our Microsoft CSP and broader cloud reseller business. This platform will replace third-party marketplace tooling and become the system of record for the full quote-to-cash lifecycle, with deep integrations into Salesforce (CRM), NetSuite (ERP/finance), and vendor systems such as Microsoft Partner Center.
The immediate priority is building the platform described above. Longer term, as the platform matures and you grow into the role, there may be an opportunity to take on a broader mandate, helping the business evolve toward a higher-margin, product-led model.
This is a hands-on builder's role. You will run requirements, backlog, and delivery ceremonies directly in the early stages, transitioning those responsibilities to your team as it's built out.
Responsibilities:
Product vision, strategy & team:
- Define and own the product vision, strategy, and phased roadmap across the platform's five core domains: billing, subscription lifecycle management, invoicing, quoting/CPQ, and procurement/provisioning.
- Spend the first 60-90 days primarily learning the business end-to-end (current-state workflows, existing resourcing, and where the real gaps are) before locking a roadmap.
- Oversee the Technical Product Owner dedicated to this platform, who shadows you directly on requirements, taking on day-to-day execution of the roadmap.
- Hire and grow the broader product team as additional domain needs are identified.
- Prioritize a single, transparent backlog balancing new capability delivery, integration work, technical debt, and operational stability.
- Make build-vs-buy-vs-integrate recommendations for each capability area, backed by data, in partnership with the VP, Technology.
Business requirements, margin & commerce modeling:
- Partner with Sales Operations, Finance, Account Management, and Support to map current quote-to-cash workflows, pain points, and edge cases; proration, co-terming, mid-term changes, multi-year commitments, renewals, credits, refunds, and overages.
- Model the complex commerce scenarios common to CSP and reseller businesses: monthly, annual, and multi-year terms; vendor price changes at renewal; margin and discount structures; usage-based and committed-consumption products.
- Make deal economics visible at the point of quote; define how margin, discount, and total contract value are calculated and surfaced so pricing decisions are made with accurate numbers rather than corrected after the fact.
- Build a working ROI framework for prioritization, with support from the VP, Technology, and Finance; internal efficiency gains and external impact should both be quantified and used to sequence the roadmap.
Integrations as first-class product work:
- Own the integration strategy and data contracts between the platform and Salesforce (accounts, opportunities, quotes, assets) and NetSuite (invoicing, revenue recognition, AR).
- Define how the platform interoperates with vendor APIs, including Microsoft Partner Center, for provisioning, subscription sync, and pricing.
- Establish the platform as the source of truth for subscription state, with clear ownership rules for every shared data object.
Billing integrity & reconciliation:
- Partner with Technology and Finance to define how subscription state is kept in agreement across the platform, vendor systems, CRM, and finance, and how discrepancies are surfaced, triaged, and resolved.
- Define the controls that close the gap between what is provisioned and what is billed, including exception paths for mid-cycle changes and out-of-band adjustments.
- Treat billing accuracy and revenue leakage as owned outcomes, not downstream operational cleanup.
Delivery leadership and operating model:
- Run agile ceremonies (backlog refinement, sprint planning, reviews) directly with the dedicated engineering pod in the early months, tapering as the product team is built out.
- The engineering pod building this platform remains part of the VP, Technology's Technical Ops organization; you'll own the roadmap and requirements it builds against, in daily collaboration with the VP, Technology.
- Own UAT planning and coordinate cutover and migration from existing tooling, with support from the VP, Technology, to minimize business disruption.
Governance & support:
- Represent Product on the Platform Steering Committee, presenting roadmap and proposals; the VP, Technology will co-present and provide support in stakeholder conversations, particularly in the first several months as you build credibility with cross-functional leadership.
- Partner closely with the VP, Technology, who will serve as a day-to-day mentor and thought partner as you grow into this role.
- Work alongside outside advisory support on revenue recognition and CPQ architecture as needed, particularly during the platform's early design phases.
Required Skills & Qualifications (must-haves):
- 5+ years in product management, with at least 2 years working directly on billing, subscription management, CPQ, e-commerce, or fintech/ERP-adjacent product.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Comfortable reading API specs, discussing data models, and having detailed technical conversations with engineers.
- Working knowledge of subscription commerce mechanics such as recurring billing, proration, co-terming, renewals, dunning, credit memos, and revenue recognition basics.
- Hands-on experience with Salesforce as an integration target (objects, flows, data model); familiarity with ERP systems (NetSuite a plus).
- Strong written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear specs and documentation for both engineers and business stakeholders.
- Comfortable operating in ambiguity and building process as you go, with support from experienced technical and business leadership.
- Demonstrated experience running agile ceremonies personally (backlog grooming, sprint planning, retrospectives) as the primary product owner for a team.
- Comfortable working directly with SQL or a similar query tool to investigate data and business questions independently.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience working directly across Sales, Finance, and Engineering leadership to align priorities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting roadmaps and trade-offs to senior or cross-functional audiences.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications (nice-to-haves):
- Prior experience building a product function or team from scratch.
- Experience in the IT channel (CSP, MSP, distributor, or reseller business models), with familiarity with Microsoft Partner Center, marketplace platforms such as AppDirect, or vendor procurement flows.
- Experience with billing platforms such as Chargebee, Zuora, or Stripe Billing, including a clear view of what these tools do well and where they break.
- Background in data science, analytics, or a quantitative discipline, applied directly to product or pricing decisions.
- Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or equivalent Agile/Scrum certification.
- Technical fluency sufficient to sketch an entity‑relationship diagram or discuss webhook reliability with engineers.
- Prior experience directly or informally managing, mentoring, or leading other product managers.
- MBA or other advanced degree in a related field.
- Familiarity with the Microsoft ecosystem, specifically CSP program mechanics, Partner Center, or Microsoft-centric reseller operations.
- Experience with product management and road mapping tools such as Jira, Aha!, ProductBoard, or Confluence.
- Exposure to multi-entity, multi-currency, or international commerce considerations.
