Job description

The Controller is TrustedTech’s operational finance leader and the direct partner to the Head of Finance, responsible for owning the accounting engine that keeps the business running accurately, efficiently, and at scale. This is a systems-building, process-owning, and close-managing position for someone who thrives in a fast-moving environment and sees operational complexity as an opportunity rather than a burden. The Controller manages the accounting team, including onshore staff, an AR function, and offshore resources.

TrustedTech’s revenue model spans multiple domains (hardware, software, and services), creating meaningful ASC 606 complexity across the organization. The Controller must be technically grounded in multi-element revenue recognition and comfortable navigating the nuances of subscription, licensing, and services billing within a single business.

Responsibilities:
  • Own the month-end close process end-to-end, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and continuous improvement in close cycle efficiency across all accounting functions.
  • Prepare and deliver comprehensive financial reports, including business unit-level P&L packages, management reporting, and budget versus actuals analysis for executive and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP across all financial reporting, including proper revenue recognition under ASC 606 across multiple revenue streams (hardware, software, and services), accrual accounting, and rigorous balance sheet management.
  • Oversee accounts receivable, customer billing operations, and data cleanliness across financial reporting systems, ensuring accuracy and integrity of all transactional and reporting data.
  • Monitor financial performance on an ongoing basis, identifying trends, surfacing risks proactively, and translating financial data into actionable operational insights for the Head of Finance and executive leadership.
  • Co-lead the Chargebee to AppDirect billing migration through to completion, serving as Finance’s technical owner and risk-mitigator, not a passive participant.
  • Audit and resolve automation breaks where billing is not triggering correctly, systematically eliminating revenue leaks across all billing streams.
  • Formally define and document Finance-owned billing workflows, establishing clear policies, controls, and handoff points between Sales and Finance to prevent billing structures from being defined outside of Finance’s governance.
  • Establish and maintain the Bible of Metrics in partnership with the Head of Finance, a centralized, real-time reporting framework covering recurring revenue by segment, churn, future revenue (including deals that close today but begin billing in future periods), and other key financial indicators.
  • Partner with the Head of Finance and data/analytics team to ensure Finance’s reporting requirements are reflected in the centralized data warehouse architecture and outputs.
  • Serve as Finance’s technical lead across key financial platforms, with primary ownership of NetSuite and Finance’s participation in major system implementations, including NetSuite ARM, AppDirect, Paycom, and other platforms as applicable.
  • Partner with TrustedTech’s in-house AI team to identify, prioritize, and deploy accounting automations that eliminate manual processes, reduce close cycle time, and improve the accuracy and scalability of the Finance function.
  • Proactively identify opportunities where AI and automation can transform accounting operations, from journal entry automation and reconciliation workflows to exception-based close management and real-time variance flagging.
  • Manage ongoing financial systems optimization, ensuring platforms are configured to support accurate reporting, efficient close processes, and scalable financial operations.
  • Partner with Operations and Technology teams on cross-functional system integration initiatives, ensuring Finance’s requirements are reflected in platform design and implementation decisions.
HoF Partnership & Strategic Finance Support:
  • Operate in lock-step with the Head of Finance, ensuring operational accounting outputs feed cleanly and consistently into strategic financial planning, forecasting, and executive reporting.
  • Serve as a proactive Finance partner in deal-desk conversations (engaged before billing structures are finalized, not called in after they break) maintaining a business-first and customer-first orientation in how Finance boundaries are applied.
  • Translate accounting operations data into actionable insights that support the Head of Finance’s forward-looking financial planning and executive reporting functions.
  • Lead, manage, and develop the accounting team, including onshore staff (Staff Accountant, AR Lead, AR Clerks) and offshore resources, building a high-performance, collaborative environment with clear expectations and ongoing coaching.
  • Set performance standards, provide regular feedback, and support professional development of accounting team members, ensuring the team has the skills and capacity to support the business’s growth trajectory.
  • Foster a culture of accuracy, accountability, continuous improvement, and forward-thinking innovation within the Finance & Accounting function.
Audit, Compliance & Internal Controls:
  • Coordinate and manage the external audit process, ensuring audit readiness, timely delivery of supporting schedules, and clean financial statement presentation throughout the audit lifecycle.
  • Manage banking relationships and serve as the primary Finance point of contact for external financial stakeholders, including lenders, auditors, and financial partners.
  • Maintain, strengthen, and continuously improve internal financial policies, controls, and procedures as TrustedTech scales, ensuring the control environment keeps pace with business growth and complexity.
Required Skills & Qualifications (must-haves):
  • 6+ years of progressive experience in accounting or controller roles, with demonstrated end-to-end ownership of close processes and financial reporting.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
  • Direct experience in TrustedTech’s industry (technology services, Microsoft channel, cloud/managed services, or SaaS) OR a CPA with demonstrated technical accounting and ASC 606 experience; both are strongly preferred. Candidates without direct industry experience must hold a CPA; candidates with direct industry experience and strong technical accounting depth will be considered without a CPA.
  • Demonstrated technical proficiency in ASC 606 revenue recognition across multiple revenue streams (hardware, software, and/or services). Must be able to speak fluently about multi-element arrangement accounting, performance obligation identification, and deferred revenue management.
  • Hands-on experience leading a billing systems migration or major ERP implementation.
  • NetSuite experience is required, including systems configuration and reporting; experience with AppDirect, Chargebee, or similar subscription billing platforms strongly preferred.
  • Experience leading distributed accounting teams, including offshore or outsourced resources.
  • AI-forward mindset: must be able to articulate how AI and automation can improve accounting operations, accelerate close cycles, and eliminate manual processes.
  • Track record of building processes, policies, and controls in fast-scaling environments; comfortable operating without a complete playbook and capable of writing one.
  • Demonstrated ability to push back constructively on Sales-driven billing requests while still finding solutions that work for the customer and the business.
  • High degree of discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive financial information.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications (nice-to-haves):
  • CPA certification or active progress toward licensure (required if candidate does not have direct industry experience; strongly preferred across all candidates regardless).
  • Experience in a SaaS, cloud services, technology, or Microsoft partner environment with direct familiarity with subscription-based revenue models, recurring billing complexity, and multi-domain revenue streams.
  • Hands-on experience with AI tools applied to accounting or Finance functions (including automation of reconciliations, close workflows, or variance analysis).
  • Experience managing external auditor relationships and supporting full financial statement audits end-to-end.
  • Comfort in a founder-led, high-velocity organization where priorities shift, urgency is real, and operational discipline has to be built alongside business growth.
  • Type: Onsite (Irvine, CA); Monday - Friday
  • Working hours: 6:00 am to 3:00 pm PT OR 7:00 am to 4:00 pm PT
  • Compensation: $190K - $220K + performance bonus
