Overview:
The Business Systems Architect is a senior individual contributor role reporting directly to the VP, Technology. This person is the VP’s technical execution partner, taking on high‑complexity, high‑stakes technical work requiring both architectural depth and hands‑on build capability. This position is built for someone who thrives at the intersection of systems thinking and execution. Receiving direction directly from the VP, Technology, the Business Systems Architect executes by digging deep into technical problems, mapping full implications, building proofs of concept, writing scripts, scoping migrations, or prototyping solutions sufficiently to inform real business decisions. This role delivers genuine technical depth, not just task completion.
The ideal candidate has worked with a broad range of platforms (CRM architectures, data pipelines, API integrations, automation platforms, business logic) to move fast without making costly mistakes. They are comfortable investigating complex technical problems and returning with clarity. They build solutions that work and know the difference between a quick workaround and a scalable platform.
Responsibilities:
Technical Discovery & Systems Analysis- Conduct deep technical discovery on complex, ambiguous problems assigned by the VP, Technology (including system migration assessments, platform evaluations, integration analyses, and architectural gap reviews) and deliver clear, well‑documented findings on scope, implications, risks, and recommended paths forward.
- Scope and analyze technical requirements for major system initiatives, such as Salesforce org migrations, business entity restructuring, platform consolidations, or new implementations; mapping the full dependency landscape, identifying pitfalls, and surfacing decisions before execution begins.
- Investigate technical issues across internal platforms (including Salesforce, Chargebee, AppDirect, data pipelines, and operational integrations), diagnosing root causes at the architectural level rather than treating symptoms.
- Produce technical documentation capturing discovery findings, architectural decisions, system configurations, and implementation rationale in enough detail to maintain institutional knowledge and support future decisions.
Applied R&D & Proof of Concept Development- Research and evaluate emerging tools, platforms, features, and capabilities on behalf of the VP, Technology, assessing whether they are worth investment of time, budget, and engineering resources.
- Build working proofs of concept independently, leveraging available tools including AI platforms, APIs, automation frameworks, and low‑code/no‑code environments to demonstrate feasibility and surface constraints before engaging development teams.
- Deliver POC outcomes with a clear verdict and supporting rationale—not just "it works," but "here is what it takes to productionize, what we learned, and whether we should proceed."
- Stay current on developments across the Microsoft ecosystem, Salesforce platform, data/analytics tooling, automation platforms, and AI‑adjacent capabilities relevant to internal systems.
Technical Build & Scripted Execution- Build internal tools, scripts, and automation workflows solving specific operational problems (such as bulk data transformations, pricing updates, customer record migrations, reporting extracts, or CRM logic changes), executing end‑to‑end from requirements through testing and deployment.
- Write clean, documented, and maintainable code or configuration logic that can be handed off, extended, or revisited without requiring the original author to be present.
- Translate operational requirements from RevOps, Finance, Sales, or other internal stakeholders into working technical solutions without requiring executive translation.
- Operate across multiple technical layers within the same engagement (from data models to business logic to user‑facing outputs) without needing specialists for each layer.
- Work within the Salesforce environment at an architectural level—understanding underlying data models, object relationships, automation logic, and integration points to make structural changes safely and intentionally.
- Design and implement Salesforce configurations, custom objects, workflow automations, flows, and integrations supporting evolving business requirements across Sales, RevOps, Finance, and Operations.
- Support integration architecture across the GTM and operational tech stack, including Salesforce, Chargebee, AppDirect, Partner Center, Outreach, ZoomInfo, and internal data platforms, ensuring data flows accurately and consistently.
- Identify and resolve technical debt within existing platform configurations, documenting existing setups, proposed changes, and potential implications prior to making modifications.
Cross‑Functional & Internal Team Collaboration- Partner with the Salesforce Systems team on CRM initiatives, providing architectural context, scoping complexity, and defining clear requirements while taking on hands‑on technical work where architectural depth is needed.
- Collaborate with Data & Insights and BI teams on data initiatives (pipeline design, reporting requirements, analytical tooling), serving as a technical bridge between business needs and data infrastructure without duplicating work.
- Engage Technical Operations on automation, tooling, and process‑engineering initiatives, contributing architectural direction while leveraging execution capacity.
- Partner with RevOps, Finance, and Sales Operations to translate technical needs into well‑scoped requests for the appropriate internal resources.
- Support the onboarding of new platforms by handling technical implementation (configuration, integration, testing, documentation) in coordination with internal teams.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands‑on experience in a technical role involving business systems architecture, CRM engineering, systems integration, or a closely related function within B2B technology or SaaS.
- Deep Salesforce proficiency at an architectural level, including data model design, custom objects, flows, workflow automation, integration patterns, and safe production modifications.
- Working knowledge of the Microsoft CSP model, including Partner Center, licensing structures, and connections to billing/operational systems.
- Demonstrated experience scoping, analyzing, and documenting complex technical initiatives (migrations, consolidations, integrations), surfacing risks before production.
- Experience building and evaluating proofs of concept with the judgment to determine when a POC is sufficient to inform decisions.
- Strong understanding of data flows, API integration patterns, webhooks, and data transformation across connected tech stacks.
- Ability to take a business problem, identify the technical approach independently, execute it, and deliver clear outcomes.
- Strong collaborative instincts; able to work within technical teams, knowing when to execute independently versus engaging specialists.
- Excellent technical documentation skills capturing what was built, why, and future implications.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with Salesforce org migrations, business entity restructuring, or multi‑org architecture (data models, permissions, integrations).
- Hands‑on experience with AI tools and APIs (LLMs, OpenAI, Claude) for rapid prototyping, automation, and internal tooling.
- Familiarity with GTM tech stacks including Salesforce, Outreach, ZoomInfo, Microsoft Partner Center, and sales engagement platforms.
- Hands‑on familiarity with billing platforms (Chargebee, AppDirect), CRM integrations, billing data flows, and revenue recognition dependencies.
- Working knowledge of SQL for data extraction, transformation, and analysis against operational databases.
- Background in data engineering, analytics, or BI tooling.
- Experience operating as a senior IC within a structured technical department.
- Prior experience supporting a VP, CTO, or senior technical leader as a dedicated technical execution partner.
