The NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene seeks a leader to develop and implement strategies for public health initiatives. The role includes overseeing policies, managing resources, and collaborating with city agencies to enhance health equity and address community needs.
Established in 1805, the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (the NYC Health Department) is the oldest and largest health department in the country. Our mission is to protect and improve the health of all New Yorkers, in service of a city in which everyone can realize their full health potential, regardless of their background or circumstances.
As a renowned public health agency, we have a history of innovative programming, scientific advancement, and responding to public health crises, from yellow fever in 1822 to COVID-19. We serve as the population health strategist, policymaker, and planning authority for New York City, with a significant impact on national and international public health policies, including programs focused on food and nutrition, tobacco control, chronic disease prevention, HIV/AIDS, family and child health, environmental health, mental health, and social justice.
