Job summary

The Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia is seeking a Director for the Policy and Legislative Affairs section within the Immediate Office. This senior role reports to the Chief of Staff and leads policy development with OAG divisions.

The incumbent will develop priorities, draft legislation and testimony, advise the Council, and engage District agencies and communities to align policy with residents’ needs.

Qualifications

• At least 7 years of relevant related specialized experience, 1 year of which must have been equivalent to the next lower grade.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Considerable prior experience handling complex policy and legislative matters.

Responsibilities

• Develop policy priorities with the Chief of Staff and Senior Leadership Team to hone policy positions across divisions.
• Draft and review all OAG testimony before the Council; ensure statements are consistent with policy positions.
• Advise the Council and consult with District agencies and communities to understand their needs and address them in policy work.
