What You'll Do:

Blackpoint Cyber is seeking a visionary and strategic Director of Platform Engineering to spearhead the strategy and execution of a new Unified Security Posture data platform that drives our data-centric cybersecurity solutions.

As the Director of Platform Engineering, you will be the single-threaded owner responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating roadmap execution and operations of our cloud-based unified security posture data platform, including vendor integrations, developer tools, data tools, identity, authentication, tenant management and other core services. You will drive the vision & execution for your organization, including collaborating with multiple engineering teams, and work cross-functionally with leaders across the company who use the platform. You will be responsible for understanding the needs of internal and external customers and module teams, setting a clear strategy for each service, organizing your team’s roadmaps & day-to-day work, monitoring the quality of services you deliver to customers, and hiring and developing a high-performing team.

You will be a highly visible leader who partners with the Product team, including the SRE team on the security, reliability, and scalability of our platform worldwide. You will partner with our product leaders to deliver innovative solutions for the platform. Customer focus is key; you will drive our commitment to operational excellence by developing org-wide processes for instrumentation, incident response, root cause analysis, and remediation of issues across our platform. This role demands a deep engineering background with hands-on experience in building and scaling production-level systems. You excel in leading teams to deliver high-quality data products and will provide mentorship, guidance, and leadership to build a high-functioning team.

Responsibilities:

1. Define and drive the Platform roadmap that is aligned with product and business objectives.
2. Lead the development of the data pipeline with robust integrations to Blackpoint’s endpoint agent and vendor integrations, and including data storage, tiered access and query capabilities.
3. Lead the delivery of all supporting platform services and their public APIs to power the security modules of the unified security posture platform, including tenant management, identity, RBAC, etc.
4. Lead data platform tooling and APIs to enhance and accelerate AI/ML and BI projects across the company.
5. Lead developer tooling and productivity responsible for continuous integration and continuous deployment tools (CI/CD).
6. Define the long-term vision of the data platform. Define and implement best practices in data architecture, data modeling, and data governance. Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends in data engineering and data science to ensure the platform remains cutting-edge.
7. Build strong relationships with internal customers, partners, and stakeholders.
8. Cultivate excellence in the reliability, scalability, security, and craft of the software your team builds.
9. Hire and develop high caliber and high performing platform engineers and data engineers and continue to build and structure your organization at scale.

Requirements:

1. 10+ years of experience in software development, with 5+ years of people management experience, demonstrating success in building, growing, and managing multiple teams.
2. Prior experience in leading a Platform Engineering function in a Director of Engineering capacity.
3. 5+ years of experience in software engineering with experience with large-scale AWS based cloud solutions and a good understanding and familiarity with the following technologies: Postgres, Elastic, Redis, streaming data solutions, ETL technologies.
4. Extensive hands-on experience in architecting and building complex data platforms, platform services and data integrations inbound and outbound with the platform.
5. Strong experience in building production-level systems including CI/CD techniques, deploying models at scale, and utilizing data pipeline orchestration and visualization tools.
6. Proven ability to influence and deliver high-impact initiatives. Forward-thinking mindset with the ability to define and drive the team’s mission, vision, and long-term strategies.
7. Excellent leadership skills with a track record of managing teams and collaborating effectively across departments. Strong writing and communication skills with a keen business intuition and adaptability to new technologies.
8. A passion for quality and a “Get Stuff Done” attitude, balanced with a sense of responsibility to customers and the team.
9. B.S. or M.S. Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
