Job summary

R1 RCM Inc. in the United States is seeking a Director of Payroll to lead enterprise payroll operations for a large, multi-state workforce. You will own payroll strategy, governance, compliance, and technology partnerships to deliver a scalable, compliant payroll function.

You will partner with HR, Finance, Tax and Legal to modernize processes, strengthen controls, and drive SOX compliance while building a high-performing team and managing key vendor relationships.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of progressive payroll leadership experience in a large enterprise.

Responsibilities

• Establish and execute the enterprise payroll strategy, operating model, governance framework, and multi-year transformation roadmap.
• Lead payroll governance, regulatory compliance, tax operations, SOX controls, audits, enterprise risk management, and financial stewardship.
• Oversee modernization of payroll capabilities through technology, automation, data governance, and Workday ecosystem optimization.
• Build and develop a high-performing payroll organization with strong leadership pipelines.
• Direct vendor partnerships and governance programs to optimize service delivery and compliance outcomes.
• Advise executives on payroll risks, workforce impacts, compliance matters, and transformation priorities.
