Job Title Director of External Research Partnerships

Role Overview

This is a high impact leadership position responsible for the end to end lifecycle of external partnerships. Rather than traditional vendor management, this role requires an active, hands on approach to managing Contract Research Organizations as a seamless extension of the internal scientific team. You will be the primary point of contact for all external relationships, ensuring that quality, speed, and cost targets are met through rigorous oversight and daily coordination.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive active management of partners by setting clear expectations and holding teams accountable for technical milestones.
• Maintain a consistent presence at partner sites, including domestic and international travel, to resolve issues in real time and strengthen working relationships.
• Identify and vet new partners across chemistry, biology, and DMPK to expand capabilities.
• Oversee the full contracting process, including SOW development and budget management, in collaboration with legal and procurement teams.
• Ensure all external data outputs are standardized and decision ready for integration into internal AI and machine learning pipelines.
• Proactively identify performance bottlenecks at the working level to prevent program delays.

Candidate Requirements

• A degree in life sciences or chemistry is required, with an advanced degree preferred.
• At least ten years of experience in pharmaceutical outsourcing, CRO management, or discovery alliance management.
• Strong background in biotech environments is highly desirable.
• Deep existing network within the global CRO landscape across multiple scientific disciplines.
• Demonstrated ability to move beyond administrative oversight to drive operational excellence and innovative ways of working.
• Experience with digital drug discovery programs and familiarity with data standardization principles like FAIR or platforms like TetraScience is a significant advantage.
• Willingness to travel regularly to maintain site presence at key partner facilities.

Compensation and Environment

This role offers a competitive base salary range between 177,000 and 278,080 USD depending on experience and qualifications.
