Job summary

Sterling Construction Company, Inc. in Phoenix, AZ, seeks a Director of Operations to provide leadership across our Arizona construction operations and guide growth and performance of multiple projects.

Reporting to the President, this senior role oversees project leadership, safety, quality, schedule and financial results; develops Project Managers and Superintendents, and partners with owners, subcontractors and engineers to deliver excellence from preconstruction through closeout.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of progressive construction experience with significant PM and ops leadership.
• Experience leading multiple projects and project teams.
• Strong understanding of project financials, forecasting, cost control, scheduling, change management and risk.
• Proven ability to develop and lead Project Managers, Superintendents and project staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide operational leadership across multiple construction projects.
• Drive successful project execution with Project Managers and Superintendents.
• Maintain accountability for project financial performance, schedule, safety, quality and staffing.
• Review monthly project cost and revenue projections and support forecasting.
• Oversee manpower and equipment planning across projects.
• Maintain relationships with owners, clients, subcontractors, architects and engineers.
• Support projects from preconstruction through completion and help resolve complex issues.
• Review and negotiate change orders and mitigate project risk.
• Partner with leadership on business development, proposals and preconstruction.
• Develop and mentor Project Managers, Superintendents, Project Engineers and emerging leaders.
• Support recruiting and succession planning for operational teams.
