POSITION OVERVIEW:
We are seeking an experienced Director of Operations to provide senior-level leadership across our client's Arizona construction operations and help guide the continued growth and performance of the business.
Reporting directly to the President, this position will be responsible for the operational and financial performance of multiple construction projects, development of project teams, client relationships, resource planning, and successful execution of work from preconstruction through project closeout.
The ideal candidate is a proven construction leader with extensive project management and operational leadership experience who understands how to successfully execute complex construction projects while developing strong Project Managers, Superintendents, Project Engineers, and emerging leaders.
This individual will maintain accountability for safety, quality, schedule, staffing, financial performance, and project risk while working closely with company leadership to support the continued growth of the Arizona operation.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Provide operational leadership and oversight across multiple construction projects throughout Arizona.
- Work directly with Project Managers and Superintendents to drive successful project execution.
- Maintain accountability for project financial performance, schedule, safety, quality, staffing, and overall operational results.
- Review monthly project cost and revenue projections and support company-wide revenue forecasting.
- Oversee manpower, staffing, and equipment planning across active projects.
- Support projects throughout the entire construction lifecycle, from preconstruction and planning through field execution and closeout.
- Maintain strong relationships with owners, clients, subcontractors, architects, engineers, and other project stakeholders.
- Identify, evaluate, and mitigate operational, financial, contractual, and project-related risks.
- Review and negotiate change orders and assist project teams in resolving complex contractual and operational issues.
- Partner with company leadership on business development, proposals, estimating, and preconstruction efforts.
- Develop, mentor, and lead Project Managers, Superintendents, Project Engineers, and emerging operational leaders.
- Support recruiting, workforce planning, performance management, and succession planning for operational teams.
- Establish accountability across project teams for cost control, scheduling, safety, quality, and client satisfaction.
- Work closely with the President and company leadership to improve project execution and support the long-term strategic growth of the organization.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Basic Qualifications
- 15+ years of progressive construction experience.
- Significant Project Management and construction operations leadership experience.
- Demonstrated experience overseeing multiple construction projects and project teams simultaneously.
- Strong understanding of project financials, forecasting, budgeting, cost control, scheduling, change management, and risk management.
- Proven experience leading and developing Project Managers, Superintendents, Project Engineers, and other construction professionals.
- Strong understanding of construction operations from preconstruction and planning through field execution and project closeout.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships with owners, clients, subcontractors, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders.
- Experience supporting business development, proposals, and preconstruction activities.
- Strong negotiation, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to operate at both the project level and broader business/operational leadership level.
Additional Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred. Equivalent relevant construction experience will be considered.
- Working knowledge of HCSS construction software.
- Experience with Primavera scheduling software.
- Experience with Bluebeam.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Strong understanding of manpower and equipment planning across multiple concurrent projects.
- Experience supporting organizational growth, recruiting, performance management, and succession planning within construction operations.
- Proven ability to balance operational execution, financial performance, client relationships, and development of project teams.
