Position Overview
The Director of Operations & Estimating is a critical leadership role serving as the operational Integrator for Primekss North America. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, this leader assumes operational, fleet, and field leadership while maintaining a disciplined cost-estimating baseline for expanding full-slab scope bids.
The primary objective is to direct end-to-end project execution, drive rigorous quality control across partner job sites, lead the automated dosing machine fleet, develop accurate takeoffs, and build out the North American operational infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational & Project Execution: Direct active project delivery from contract booking through pour to final turnover.
- Field Leadership & Contractor Enablement: Serve as the senior technical subject matter expert on site.
- Fleet & Equipment Management: Direct the dosing machine fleet program, coordinating with the central warehouse hub for equipment staging, maintenance schedules, and rapid field repairs.
- Cost Estimating & Takeoffs: Produce accurate quantity takeoffs and bottom-up cost estimates. Vet regional ready-mix suppliers and subcontractor labor rates to expand cost databases, conducting quarterly estimate-versus-actual reconciliations.
- Infrastructure & Team Development: Formalize standard operating procedures (SOPs), machine logs, and QA checklists. Hire, onboard, and mentor additional team members to support North American operations.
Who This Person Is: The Field Leader & Operational Integrator
- A Concrete Industry Veteran: You bring 5 years of hands-on field experience in commercial/industrial concrete construction, ready-mix operations, or self-perform concrete subcontracting (subcontractor experience preferred over general contracting management).
- A Proven Team Leader: You have 5 years of experience leading field crews, project teams, or operational units, with a clear progression from on-site supervision (Superintendent, Field Engineer) into operational leadership.
- A Technical Mix Specialist: You possess a deep technical understanding of concrete mix designs, admixtures, aggregate ratios, slump parameters, curing chemistry, and placement mechanics.
- Mechanically Adept & Hands-On: You are comfortable working around machinery, diagnosing field equipment, and turning wrenches to troubleshoot automated dosing systems on job sites when required.
- An Accurate Estimator: You have proven ability in blueprint reading, quantity takeoffs, and generating bottom-up cost estimates derived from production rates and supplier quotes.
- A Pragmatic Problem-Solver: You thrive in fast-paced, high-autonomy environments, preferring to build operational systems and author SOPs rather than wait for instructions.
- An Empathetic Communicator: You possess the emotional intelligence required to coach and influence independent third-party crews without direct contractual authority, along with the cultural agility to collaborate across global time zones.
- Educated & Credentialed: You hold a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or practical concrete field leadership experience. ACI certifications (Concrete Field Testing Technician, Commercial Flatwork) and OSHA 30 credentials are preferred.
