Director of Concrete Construction

The Director of Concrete Construction provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all concrete construction projects within the organization. This role ensures project delivery excellence, field productivity, safety compliance, and profitability while maintaining high-quality standards and client satisfaction. The Director mentors project teams, drives continuous improvement, and establishes operational best practices across the concrete division.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute long‑term strategy for growth and performance of the concrete division.
  • Lead a team of project managers, superintendents, estimators, and field crews.
  • Establish division goals, budgets, KPIs, and performance reporting systems.
  • Collaborate with executives on business planning, forecasting, and resource allocation.
Project Management
  • Oversee planning and execution of multiple concrete projects from bid to completion.
  • Review project estimates, budgets, change orders, and cost reports.
  • Ensure scope, schedule, and budget objectives are achieved.
  • Resolve high‑level project issues related to constructability, logistics, and execution.
Operations & Field Performance
  • Standardize construction methods, processes, and productivity metrics.
  • Optimize labor, equipment, and material utilization.
  • Implement best practices in formwork, mix design, placement, finishing, and curing.
  • Ensure readiness for pours, including safety, logistics, and QA/QC planning.
Safety & Compliance
  • Promote a proactive safety culture across all project teams.
  • Enforce OSHA and company safety policies.
  • Support risk management and incident investigation efforts.
Quality Control
  • Ensure concrete work meets engineering specifications and industry standards (ACI, ASTM).
  • Oversee mix design submittals, testing coordination, and field QA/QC.
  • Minimize rework through proactive planning and inspection.
Client & Stakeholder Management
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Lead preconstruction and coordination meetings.
  • Support business development with bid strategy and client presentations.
Team Development
  • Recruit, train, and mentor construction leaders and field personnel.
  • Build a high‑performance culture focused on safety, quality, and accountability.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and succession planning.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (preferred).
  • 10–15+ years of concrete construction experience, including field management.
  • Proven leadership experience managing large commercial, industrial, or heavy civil concrete projects.
  • Experience with tilt‑up, structural concrete, mass foundations, or flatwork (as applicable).
  • Strong knowledge of concrete construction methods, scheduling, and cost control.
  • Proficient with construction software (Procore, Viewpoint, P6, Bluebeam, MS Project).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple high‑value projects simultaneously.
Certifications (Preferred)
  • ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician
  • OSHA 30
  • PMP or CCM certification
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license (optional but valuable)
