Job description

About The Opportunity

We're looking for our future Director of Operations — someone we'll personally mentor into running day-to-day operations across a growing contracting and specialty utilities business. This isn't a conventional hire. We're not looking for someone who already has 15 years in construction operations; we're looking for someone with the raw intelligence, drive, and communication skills to be developed into one of the most important people in the company.

You'll work directly with ownership, learning the business from the ground up — field operations, project management, sales, client relationships, and eventually people management and strategic decision-making. Construction and regulatory knowledge can be taught. What can't be taught is judgment, reliability, and the ability to communicate well with everyone from a crew foreman to a commercial client.

What You'll Grow Into
  • Overseeing daily operations across two related businesses: a general contracting firm handling remodels and construction projects, and a specialty utility operation serving commercial, industrial, and residential clients
  • Managing and developing field teams and project managers
  • Owning client and vendor relationships, including sales conversations and proposals
  • Building and refining the operational systems, scheduling, and processes that let the business scale
  • Eventually stepping into a role with real P&L accountability and the authority to make decisions in the owner's absence
What We're Looking For
  • Intelligence and quick learning — you pick up technical and regulatory material fast, even material you've never encountered before
  • Exceptional communication skills — clear, confident, and adaptable across very different audiences (field crews, executives, homeowners)
  • Reliability — you show up, you follow through, and people can build plans around you
  • A natural aptitude for sales and relationship-building, even without formal sales experience
  • Comfort with ambiguity — this role will be defined and redefined as you grow into it
  • Genuine interest in construction, operations, or business-building — prior experience is a plus, not a requirement
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience in a role demonstrating critical thinking, deadlines, crossfunctional communication, and high consequence decision making
  • 4-year degree and 3+ years in the workforce or 10+ years of professional experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
