Summary: The Director of Nursing is responsible for planning, organizing, developing, and directing the Nursing Department to ensure the highest quality of care, in compliance with all applicable standards, regulations, and guidelines, under the guidance of the Administrator and Medical Director.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and oversee the nursing service department, including policies, procedures, and daily operations, ensuring compliance with regulations.
- Coordinate nursing services with other resident care services to ensure continuity of care; participate in quality assurance and facility surveys; assist in discharge planning; monitor survey reports and quality indicators.
- Staffing management: determine staffing needs, assign duties, develop schedules, and supervise nursing staff performance.
- Support HR functions: assist in performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and staff training.
- Oversee infection control programs, including TB management and safety protocols; report occupational exposures.
- Review nursing documentation, medication administration, and treatments to ensure accuracy and adherence to care plans.
- Coordinate ongoing education and training for nursing staff.
- Report incidents of fraud or misconduct.
- Assist with MDS planning, resident care planning, and family engagement.
- Maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with privacy regulations.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience in a healthcare setting such as a hospital or nursing facility.
- Current RN license in the state.
- CPR certification.
- Proficient in English communication.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of nursing practices, laws, and regulations applicable to nursing facilities.
- Ability to make independent decisions and relate effectively with residents, families, and staff.
Physical Demands
- Ability to move and assist residents as needed; lift at least 25 lbs.; cope with mental and emotional stress; meet health requirements.
