Don Position Summary

The Director of Nursing (DON) supervises nursing staff in a correctional setting requiring 24-hour services. Responsibilities include supervising and coordinating nursing activities, verifying patient needs are met, evaluating care, planning work for units, and collaborating with leadership to meet performance targets.

Minimum Requirements / Preferences

• Graduate of an accredited nursing school; Bachelor’s or Master’s preferred
• Licensed to practice nursing in the state; board-certified or eligible; experience with adult populations
• Correctional healthcare certification preferred (CCHP, CCHP-RN)
• Minimum 3 years clinical experience; correctional experience preferred
• Clinical operations management and leadership experience preferred
• Knowledge of accreditation standards (NCCHC, ACA) and quality improvement programs

Essential Functions

• Meet individual patient health needs systematically
• Provide quality oversight, supervise staff, and ensure effective patient care
• Evaluate care delivery, use data for performance improvement, and report findings
• Develop performance improvement plans and monitor progress
• Conduct audits for compliance and quality improvement
• Prepare for accreditation, develop action plans, and ensure standards are met
• Proactively address healthcare and contractual issues in collaboration with leadership
• Participate in staff recruitment, assessments, and professional development
• Ensure regulatory compliance and proper documentation
• Develop staffing schedules and lead staff meetings
• Coordinate with external agencies and participate in committees
• Support company initiatives and special projects
