Job description

Baytown Surgery Center, a licensed and accredited Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) in Baytown, Texas, is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse with ASC leadership background to serve as a part-time Director of Nursing Consultant. This consulting role provides high-level oversight to ensure ongoing compliance with Texas state licensing requirements (Texas Health and Human Services Commission), Medicare Conditions for Coverage, and current accreditation standards (e.g., AAAHC, Joint Commission, or similar).

This is not a full-time operational management position. The consultant will focus on strategic guidance, periodic audits, policy review, and preparation for surveys/inspections, allowing the center to maintain its licensure and accreditation while leveraging the consultant’s expertise efficiently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide oversight of nursing services and clinical operations to ensure alignment with state, federal, and accreditation standards.
  • Conduct periodic on-site reviews (1-2 days per week) of clinical documentation, infection control practices, QAPI programs, risk management, and patient safety protocols.
  • Review and update nursing policies, procedures, and competencies as needed to maintain compliance.
  • Assist in preparing for accreditation surveys, state inspections, and Medicare deeming status renewals, including mock surveys and corrective action plans.
  • Monitor credentialing and competency of nursing staff; advise on staff development and training needs.
  • Serve as a resource for the ASC Administrator and Governing Body on nursing-related regulatory matters.
  • Participate in QAPI meetings (in-person or virtually) and review incident reports, infection control data, and peer review processes.
  • Ensure the center's nursing practices support safe, high-quality patient care in pre-op, intra-op, and post-op phases.
Qualifications
  • Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Texas.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s degree in Nursing or Healthcare Administration preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience in perioperative nursing (OR, PACU, or ASC setting).
  • At least 3 years in a nursing leadership role, preferably as Director of Nursing or similar in an Ambulatory Surgery Center.
  • Strong knowledge of Texas ASC regulations (25 TAC Chapter 135 / 26 TAC Chapter 508), CMS Conditions for Coverage (42 CFR Part 416), and accreditation standards (AAAHC, Joint Commission, or equivalent).
  • Experience with accreditation surveys, quality improvement initiatives, and infection prevention highly preferred.
  • Certifications such as CNOR (Certified Nurse Operating Room), CASC (Certified Administrator Surgery Center), or similar a plus.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Professional liability insurance required.
What We Offer
  • Competitive consulting rate (hourly or daily, commensurate with experience).
  • Flexible part-time schedule focused on high-impact oversight rather than daily operations.
  • Opportunity to support a community-focused ASC while maintaining work-life balance.
  • Independent contractor status (1099).

To apply, please submit your resume, proof of current RN licensure, and a brief summary of your ASC compliance experience to [insert contact email or application instructions]. We are an equal opportunity employer and look forward to discussing how your expertise can help us maintain excellence in patient care.
