Job summary

Location: Richmond, VA - VA East Region

Job Type: Full-Time

Travel Requirement: The role will be about 75% travel within the Region, when not filling in as an interim DON in a building.

This role requires an experienced RN leader with a deep understanding of long-term care operations, regulatory compliance, and clinical best practices. The ideal candidate will be an influential mentor who can assess, stabilize, and optimize nursing departments while supporting and developing facility-level clinical leadership.

Role Overview & Key Responsibilities

The Director of Nursing and Quality Assurance provides interim Director of Nursing leadership in centers experiencing DON vacancies or transitions, ensuring continuity of clinical oversight, regulatory compliance, and safe, effective care delivery. This role holds full DON authority while assigned and partners closely with Regional Nursing leadership to stabilize operations and advance clinical performance.

Key responsibilities include:

• Serving as Interim Director of Nursing, with accountability for nursing operations, staffing, competencies, and clinical outcomes during vacancies or transitions
• Providing hands-on clinical leadership to nursing teams, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards, policies, and evidence-based practice
• Supporting survey readiness and response, including corrective action planning, staff education, and on-site leadership during surveys
• Leading clinical operations stabilization, identifying risk areas and implementing immediate and sustainable improvements
