Job description

Cedarhurst of St. Charles, a regional healthcare provider and true friend of older adults, seeks a service-minded, career-oriented individual to join our team as a Director of Nursing at our Cedarhurst of St. Charles community. This position requires some weekend availability.

As the Director of Nursing, you will have the opportunity to connect with and positively impact the lives of our residents daily! You will be responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of clinical operations, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care to residents in compliance with regulations and organizational goals.

As a Director of Nursing, working with the Executive Director, you will impact the lives of our residents by:

  1. Overseeing the delivery of quality care and services to our residents in compliance with the regulations pertaining to care plans and resident assessments.
  2. Developing and implementing nursing service objectives, policies, and procedures in coordination with organizational goals and objectives, in accordance with Federal and State regulations.
  3. Striving to maintain a safe working environment through the prevention of accidents, the preservation of equipment, and the achievement of safe working practices.
  4. Providing nursing coverage and assistance when needed.
  5. Assessing residents and potential residents for appropriate levels of care with a sense of urgency.
  6. Managing and coordinating the work of all nursing and care staff, communicating pertinent resident health and safety information.
  7. Supervising and monitoring medications for residents who self-administer, if applicable.
  8. Overseeing the pharmacy and community relationship, ensuring medications are delivered timely, eMAR is accurate, and addressing any concerns in real-time.
  9. Providing interim documentation as required to resident files, attending all scheduled interdisciplinary resident care meetings.
  10. Responsible for overseeing the entire clinical department including residents’ assistants, certified nursing assistants, medication technicians, etc.
  11. Interviewing, hiring, training, supervising, evaluating, and retaining a high-performing resident care team.
  12. Holding service plan meetings with residents and families to discuss service plans.
  13. Directing communication with surveyors during IDPH surveys and assisting with plans of corrections.
  14. Implementing and maintaining ISPs in accordance with state regulations that align with Cedarhurst of St. Charles policies for personalized care.
  15. Implementing and maintaining infection control policy and procedures.
  16. Ensuring communities remain compliant with CLIA waiver.
  17. Managing inventory and ordering nursing care supplies as needed.
  18. Understanding all responsibilities associated with clinical roles and demonstrating the ability to effectively carry them out.
  19. Engaging in efforts to increase occupancy rates while prioritizing the well-being of our residents to support them in aging comfortably within the community.
  20. Promoting the physical, personal, and emotional well-being of each resident and striving to maintain the ultimate goal, which is to return the resident to their maximum level of self-care and independence, when possible.
  21. Understanding the residents’ Advance Directives and following their wishes.
  22. Ensuring effective communication is utilized by community staff with the residents’ families concerning residents’ care, encompassing their physical, personal, and emotional well-being.
  23. Working well with others and taking direction from management, as well as taking initiative with the capability to engage in conflict intervention and resolution for residents, families, employees, and others as needed.
  24. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand/move, communicate, and identify written information. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds independently; occasionally lift and/or move up to 200 pounds with assistance.

To become a Director of Nursing, you will need:

  1. Graduation from an accredited nursing school and a current state license for LPN or RN is required at all times, with 3+ years of nursing experience preferred.
  2. CPR and BLS certification preferred.
  3. Working knowledge of best person-directed care practices for seniors, including those with dementia preferred.
  4. Knowledgeable of and experienced in conducting preadmission assessments, training, and education to staff, residents, and family members.
  5. Be able to demonstrate proficiency in Internet browsers (e.g., Explorer, Chrome, and Firefox), Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Excel, Word, and Publisher, electronic health records (EHR) systems, and any HR-related systems if applicable.
