Job Description

Position: Director of Nursing

Immediate Supervisor: Administrator

Experience & Qualifications
  • Minimum of two years supervisory experience in a hospital, skilled nursing facility, or related healthcare program.
  • Working knowledge of Long Term Care operational standards as set forth in Federal Register, Conditions of Participation, and State regulations.
  • Must have worked in Long Term Care.
Overall Purpose

The primary purpose of this position is to plan, develop, organize, and direct the day-to-day functions of the Nursing Services Department in accordance with Federal, State, and local standards, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures, and maintaining the highest quality of care.

Job Functions & Duties
  1. Interpret facility policies and procedures to staff, residents, families, visitors, and regulatory agencies.
  2. Assist in developing and implementing care plans to ensure quality of life and care based on comprehensive assessments.
  3. Maintain good working relationships with inter-department personnel.
  4. Ensure nursing personnel adhere to their job descriptions.
  5. Complete necessary medical forms, reports, evaluations, and charting.
  6. Attend staff meetings and participate in quality assurance programs.
  7. Report on departmental operations and quality assurance activities to the Administrator.
  8. Conduct daily rounds to monitor staff performance and resident care.
  9. Discipline staff as necessary, documenting actions appropriately.
  10. Ensure adequate staffing levels, including approving extra shifts and temporary staff.
  11. Audit medication administration records (MAR) and treatment administration records (TAR) weekly.
  12. Monitor lab logs and physician order logs.
  13. Serve on facility committees such as Infection Control, Quality Assurance, and Utilization Review.
  14. Identify and report safety issues, incidents, and accidents promptly.
  15. Manage supplies efficiently to prevent waste.
  16. Ensure care plans are used effectively in daily resident care, respecting privacy and dignity.
  17. Assist with reviewing resident complaints and grievances.
  18. Complete performance evaluations for nursing staff.
  19. Participate in Manager on Duty weekend rotations.
  20. Perform other duties as assigned by the Administrator.
