GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES

The Director of Nursing is responsible for the daily operations of the Surgery Center, including overseeing procedure scheduling, inventory control, QA/QI, staff credentialing, preventative maintenance, safety, risk management, and supporting services of the ambulatory surgical center and its personnel.

EDUCATION and/or Experience
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Current California Registered Nurse License
  • Previous OR and DON experience in an ASC environment is required
  • Current American Heart Assn. BLS and ACLS certifications
Major Functions and Responsibilities

The primary role of the Director of Nursing is leadership and fostering cooperative staff effort. They are responsible for assigning and completing daily operational functions.

Accountabilities
  • Monitor daily internal flow and physician relationships
  • Assist in Pre-Op, PACU, and OR activities
  • Coordinate activities within the OR suite
  • Ensure adherence to policies and procedures
  • Oversee staffing and assignments
  • Maintain good interpersonal relationships with patients, staff, and healthcare team members
  • Evaluate departmental personnel performance
  • Coordinate materials, supplies, and equipment management with the Materials Manager
  • Maintain employee files
  • Monitor payroll and overtime
Staff Development
  • Oversee staff development initiatives
  • Manage clinical leaders
  • Create agendas and facilitate staff meetings
  • Identify and assess talent to fill gaps in roles
Administrative Highlights
  • Ensure first case on-time starts and manage OR turnover
  • Enhance physician engagement and relations
  • Prepare for and execute AAAHC surveys
  • Manage peer review, QAPI, Press Ganey, Infection Control, and Risk databases
  • Oversee clinical staff scheduling, productivity, and staffing efficiency reports
