DIRECTOR OF NURSING

POSITION SUMMARY

The purpose of this position is to manage, develop, and oversee the nursing department's operations in accordance with federal, state, and local standards, under the guidance of the Administrator and Medical Director.

The Director of Nursing will treat residents with kindness, dignity, and respect, maintaining professionalism and effective communication with residents, families, visitors, staff, and regulatory personnel. They will lead by example, demonstrating patience, initiative, and a commitment to doing the right thing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Coordinate with the Administrator to recruit and select nursing staff.
• Review staffing and scheduling to meet daily PPD requirements.
• Assist in monitoring in-service training with the DSD.
• Support nursing staff during admissions, medication passes, and wound care.
• Provide written and verbal recommendations to the Administrator regarding nursing operations.
• Maintain and update nursing policies and procedures.
• Conduct performance evaluations for nursing staff.
• Review discharge plans for residents.
• Perform rounds and inspections.
• Assist in surveys and follow-up on corrective actions.
• Monitor quality improvement (QI) and survey reports.
• Address complaints and grievances from staff, residents, or third parties.
• Report occupational exposures as required by law.
• Adhere to facility policies, including confidentiality and security protocols.
• Stay informed about new regulations affecting skilled nursing.
• Attend meetings and serve on committees.
• Participate in annual in-service training programs.

REQUIREMENTS

Education / Licensure
