Title: Director of Nursing

Location: Bluefield, VA 24605

Duration: 9 weeks contract (Strong possibility of extension)

Requirements:

  • Minimum 1 year of recent leadership/ supervisor experience.
  • BLS- AHA
  • RN license

Basic Job duties:

  • Oversee Nursing Staff: Lead and manage all nursing staff, including nurses, nurse managers, and other clinical staff. This includes hiring, training, evaluating performance, and ensuring adequate staffing levels.
  • Staff Development: Ensure nursing staff are continuously educated and up-to-date on best practices, certifications, and compliance requirements.
  • Policy Development: Develop and enforce nursing policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective care delivery.
  • Ensure High Standards of Care: Monitor and maintain the quality of care provided to patients, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and standards.
  • Patient Safety: Oversee patient safety protocols to prevent errors, infections, and other complications.
  • Care Coordination: Work with other healthcare departments (physicians, therapists, etc.) to ensure seamless and coordinated care for patients.
  • Compliance with Healthcare Laws: Ensure the facility complies with local, state, and federal healthcare regulations, such as HIPAA, the Joint Commission standards, and other industry standards.
  • Audit and Monitoring: Conduct audits and assessments to ensure nursing practices are compliant with these regulations and standards.
  • Budget Planning: Develop and manage the nursing department’s budget, including staffing, supplies, and equipment.
  • Resource Allocation: Ensure the nursing staff has the necessary tools, equipment, and supplies to provide optimal care.
  • Interdisciplinary Team Leadership: Lead and participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to plan and implement care strategies for patients.
  • Family and Patient Interaction: Sometimes the DON also deals with patient or family concerns, ensuring that they are heard and addressed promptly.
  • Communication: Maintain effective communication between nursing staff, physicians, administrators, and other healthcare professionals to ensure patient care is coordinated.
  • Quality Improvement Initiatives: Lead initiatives to improve nursing practices and patient care outcomes. This may include setting goals, tracking progress, and implementing improvements.
  • Addressing Concerns: Investigate complaints or concerns from patients, families, or staff, and take corrective action when necessary.
  • Set Departmental Goals: Establish short- and long-term goals for the nursing department in alignment with the facility’s objectives.
  • Innovative Care Solutions: Implement new nursing practices or technologies to improve patient care and operational efficiency.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Ensure the nursing staff is trained and prepared to respond to medical emergencies or unexpected situations (e.g., natural disasters, pandemics, etc.).
