Job summary

The St Monica Center for Rehab and Healthcare in Baltimore, Maryland, seeks an experienced Director of Nursing (DON) to lead our nursing department in a skilled nursing facility. The DON will provide clinical leadership, ensure regulatory compliance, support staff development, and promote high-quality resident care.

The DON will oversee RNs, LPNs, CNAs/GNAs, monitor staffing, develop care plans, and participate in QAPI, quality improvement, and regulatory surveys to ensure safe, dignified care

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maryland.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Previous nursing leadership experience in a skilled nursing/long-term care setting preferred.
• Strong knowledge of federal and Maryland skilled nursing regulations.
• Knowledge of CMS requirements, infection prevention, quality improvement, and survey processes.
• Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to effectively manage and motivate a multidisciplinary nursing team.
• Strong clinical judgment and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and direction to the nursing department.
• Ensure residents receive safe, compassionate, individualized care.
• Oversee nursing staff, including RNs, LPNs, and CNAs/GNAs.
• Monitor staffing levels, schedules, assignments, and nursing coverage.
• Ensure compliance with CMS, Maryland Department of Health, and federal/state regulations.
• Develop, implement, and monitor nursing policies, procedures, and clinical standards.
• Participate in the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program.
• Monitor clinical outcomes, quality measures, infection prevention, falls, wounds, hospitalizations, and other key indicators.
• Conduct regular rounds and provide clinical oversight of resident care.
• Work collaboratively with the Administrator, Medical Director, physicians, residents, families, and interdisciplinary team.
• Oversee the development and implementation of comprehensive care plans.
• Ensure accurate and timely nursing documentation.
• Respond appropriately to changes in resident condition and ensure appropriate physician and family notification.
• Investigate incidents, accidents, complaints, and allegations and implement corrective actions as needed.
• Support survey readiness and participate in regulatory surveys and inspections.
• Identify educational needs and coordinate ongoing staff education and competency programs.
• Promote retention, accountability, teamwork, and professional development among nursing staff.
• Assist with recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, and performance management of nursing personnel.
• Ensure appropriate infection prevention and control practices are consistently followed.
• Monitor medication management and other clinical processes in collaboration with appropriate personnel.
• Maintain effective communication with residents and their responsible parties.
