Job summary

Observable Space is seeking a Director of Mechanical Engineering to lead and scale a high‑performing team while remaining hands-on with complex mechanical and optomechanical system design. You will set technical direction, drive architecture, and ensure delivery across multiple development programs.

You will mentor engineers, manage cross‑functional collaboration, and guide analyses from concept through production.

Qualifications

• 10+ years designing complex mechanical systems for high-performance hardware.
• Experience leading mechanical engineering teams while actively contributing technically.
• Proven ability to guide cross-functional teams through design reviews and architecture.
• Strong CAD skills and understanding of tolerance analysis, DFM/DFA.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and development of complex mechanical and optomechanical systems.
• Build and lead a high-performing mechanical engineering team.
• Own execution across multiple programs balancing quality, schedule, and priorities.
• Lead design reviews, trade studies, and technical direction throughout the product lifecycle.
• Define roadmaps and priorities with Engineering leadership.
• Guide structural, thermal, vibration, and tolerance analyses to meet specs.
• Support prototyping, testing, manufacturing, and supplier activities.
