Job summary

Zohorecruit seeks an experienced Director of SEO to own strategy end-to-end, focusing on local SEO for SMB clients, AI in search, and managing white-label vendors.

From week one you will audit vendor contracts, draft in-house scopes, and develop SOPs; long term you’ll build and lead an internal SEO team and align with web development.

This is a remote, contract-to-hire role with a leadership track, requiring strong communication and the ability to translate strategy into measurable results.

Qualifications

• 6+ years hands-on SEO with demonstrable results improving local/SMB rankings (map pack position, GBP visibility, organic traffic).
• Experience with Ahrefs and capabilities for keyword research, rank tracking, competitor and gap analysis.
• Competence across traditional technical and on-page SEO, local map tracking, AI-driven SEO, and answer engine optimization.
• Experience editing or directing content produced by others with a clear SEO perspective.
• Genuine current interest in AI-driven search, not just awareness of its existence.
• Ability to work independently in a remote, contract-to-hire structure with limited existing infrastructure.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain SEO impact to non-technical stakeholders and clients.

Responsibilities

• Own SEO strategy across all client accounts.
• Audit current white-label vendor contracts and performance, identify scopes to bring in-house, and draft SOPs for repeatable work.
• Manage Google Business Profile, map pack and on-page SEO for a portfolio of small-business clients (auto detailing, PPF, tint).
• Serve as internal SEO consultant on website development builds, advising early in the build process.
• Grow and lead an internal SEO team over time.
