Job summary

State of Iowa, based in Des Moines at the Iowa State Capitol, seeks a leader's office professional to supervise the research staff and administrative employees. This full-time position reports to the Iowa House Democratic Leader.

The role includes drafting, research support, and fiscal analysis of legislation, coordinating staff for committees of Democratic members, and collaboration across legislative, executive, and judicial branches with lobbyists and the public.

Qualifications

• At least a decade of experience in a legislative organization or related environment that provides or directs public policy, including legal and fiscal analysis.
• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• A law degree / licensed attorney is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Direct supervision of the Iowa House Democratic Research Staff and administrative employees.
• Drafting and research assistance.
• Fiscal analysis of legislation.
• Staff committees for the elected Democratic members of the Iowa House of Representatives.
• Ability to work effectively with legislative leaders, legislators and their staff as well as legislative, executive and judicial branch personnel, lobbyists and the public.
