Job summary

The South Dakota Legislative Research Council (LRC) seeks a permanent, full-time Director to lead the agency and set strategic direction. The Director ensures professional, confidential, and objective research, legal, and fiscal services to the 105 members of the South Dakota Legislature.

Responsibilities include overseeing Operations, IT, Legal, and Fiscal divisions; staffing and supervising attorneys and analysts; advising the Legislature; and guiding compliance with state laws and rules.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in a legislative environment.
• Managerial or supervisory experience.
• The salary is dependent upon a candidate's qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities

• Overseeing the LRC's Operations, Information and Technology, Legal, and Fiscal divisions.
• Providing staff services to the Executive Board of the Legislative Research Council.
• Providing staff services to the House, Senate, and Joint Legislative Procedure Committees.
• Hiring, supervising, and evaluating the LRC's staff attorneys, analysts, and support personnel
• Developing and managing the LRC's budget
• Serving as the parliamentary advisor to the South Dakota Legislature.
• Assisting the Code Counsel to ensure that the Administrative Rules of South Dakota, Session Laws of South Dakota, and South Dakota Codified Laws are properly updated, current, and accurate.
• Performing all statutorily required functions.
