Legislative Research Council in Pierre, SD seeks a permanent, full-time Legislative Attorney to support legislators with accurate legal research and drafting. Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate required and bar admission in good standing in SD or eligibility within one year.
• Ability to stay objective, nonpartisan, and maintain confidentiality.
• Experience in legislative research and drafting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Compile data and conduct general and legal research for committees and legislators, offering alternative solutions.
• Advise legislators on legislative legal questions and draft/edit bills, resolutions, and amendments.
• Staff standing and interim committees, develop agendas, obtain testimony, and prepare reports.
• Review administrative rules for form, style, and statutory compliance.
• Research and write issue memoranda and create resources for the Legislature and the public.
