Job summary

North Carolina Central University is seeking a Director of Legal Writing to oversee the School of Law’s legal writing program. The role includes curriculum development, faculty support, and assessment to strengthen student success and bar readiness.

The Director will teach courses within the legal writing curriculum, supervise curriculum delivery, and contribute to program evaluation and professional communication training for students.

Qualifications

• Expertise in subject matter hired to teach.
• Ability to design and teach courses at the J.D. level.
• Excellent oral and written English communication skills.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Basic computer skills, proficient in MS Office or similar software.
• Experience with software related to legal education (Lexis, Westlaw).

Responsibilities

• Develop and design curriculum plans to foster learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensure student engagement.
• Provide tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintain class records, and assess coursework; maintain office hours.
• Conduct research in relevant fields and publish findings; collaborate with colleagues and participate in conferences.
• Serve on Law School and University committees and participate in campus events.
