Our client, a private life sciences company unifying AI and biotech to discover novel treatments, has exclusively engaged Solutus Legal to assist with their first in-house legal hire. This role offers an exciting opportunity for an attorney to develop and lead the company's legal function, overseeing daily legal activities such as commercial relationships, strategic transactions, compliance, and corporate governance. The attorney will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer.

The ideal candidate will:

• Hold a J.D., be admitted to the CA Bar, and have 3-4+ years of legal experience. Candidates from law firms are welcome; in-house experience is a plus but not required.
• Be a proactive doer comfortable working independently, capable of identifying issues and seeking outside counsel when necessary.
• Possess sound business judgment, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to balance risk and opportunity effectively.
• Have excellent organizational skills, capable of managing multiple projects and implementing processes and efficiencies.

Responsibilities include:

• Collaborating with company leadership and stakeholders to address legal matters and scale the legal function.
• Serving as project manager and internal legal contact for various company priorities.
• Reviewing and negotiating agreements, including biotech materials and services, technology, and other commercial contracts.
• Designing and implementing policies, systems, and scalable workflows.
• Managing a contract lifecycle system and training employees on its use.
• Staying informed about relevant regulatory, compliance, and business rules.
• Managing outside counsel relationships and projects as needed.

Targeted compensation is approximately $230,000 base salary, with a 20% bonus and equity. Total compensation will vary based on seniority and experience. The company is dedicated to improving human health and continuously enhances its benefits and employee well-being programs.
